Sony AI is seeking highly motivated, self-driven individuals with expertise in AI and Machine Learning for our flagship project on robotic manipulation in the food domain. We're currently looking for smart, enthusiastic people who want to join our team of world renowned researchers as we push the boundaries applying AI to robots in support of human creativity. In this role, the successful candidate will lead our groundbreaking project and get the opportunity to shape a complete research and development program.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead research programs applying machine learning to robotics
- Organize, lead and supervise a mid-size technical team of research scientists and engineers in developing AI demonstrations and capabilities in the field of robotic manipulation
- Contribute technical expertise and oversight in deployment of AI algorithms on robots
- Steer and plan the strategic direction of the team
- Formulate real world problems into machine learning for robotics problems
- Write reports and give presentations for internal audiences
- Write papers for, and give presentations at academic conferences
- Interact with senior management on setting and managing budget and direction of the project
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Background in machine learning and robotics (PhD in related area) and relevant work experience (7 or more years of experience after degree)
- Proven track record of developing working systems, academic publications, patents, and/or open source software
- Knowledge of and experience with the state of the art in robotics and machine learning approaches to manipulation including perception, control and actuation
- Project management experience with a proven track record of translating high-level strategic targets into actionable plans (Experience in leading a team of more than 5 research scientists or engineers)
- The ability to deliver on tight deadlines and adapt to evolving requirements
- Experience in solving interdisciplinary problems that include various stakeholders
- Excellent oral and written English. Japanese language skills are a plus but not necessary
