Sony AI is looking for a talented Mechanical/Mechatronics engineer to join our Tokyo-based team for a 6-month internship. Weʼre currently looking for smart, enthusiastic people who want to join our team of world-renowned researchers as we push the boundaries applying AI in support of human creativity. In this role, the successful candidate will contribute to our groundbreaking flagship projects from the perspectives of Mechanical/Mechatronics technology.
Roles and Responsibilities
The intern will work in a diverse team to develop and support various mechatronic systems. The role would be to assist our engineers in improving our existing systems, developing new concepts and prototypes, designing, building and testing mechanical and electronic systems.
- Conceptual/detailed design of electromechanical systems
- Design and prototyping of mechanical and electrical hardware for robotic systems
- Design of control frameworks for those
- Blueprint drafting, negotiating with vendors/manufacturers
- Control software implementation for hardware testing
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Background in robotics (bachelor’s degree in mechanical/electrical engineering or mechatronics)
- Understanding of theoretical mechanics
- Experience of designing mechanisms (robot manipulators, parts of those, other high-DOF mechanisms)
- Experience in designing grippers/end-effectors
- Experience of designing electrical circuits
- Experience of designing mechanical parts using CAD, drafting blueprints and manufacturing those
- Understanding of robot control algorithms
- Experience of implementing control software in C++/Python is a plus
- Experience of using middleware such as ROS is a plus
Other Required Knowledge
- The ability to deliver on tight deadlines and adapt to evolving or changing requirements
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
- At least good verbal and written communication skills in English
