Alessandra Toniato

Alessandra is a research scientist in SonyAI based in Zurich. Starting her career as a physical engineer, she saw a need for a methodological approach to science. This prompted her to pursue a Master of Science in Mathematical Engineering. Alessandra went on to work at IBM Research, which inspired her to earn a Ph.D. from ETH Zurich, where she combined AI (natural language processing) and Chemistry to solve the complex problem of Retrosynthesis. The IBM RXN for Chemistry project she participated in received the Sandmeyer 2022 award.
