Sony AI at the Reinforcement Learning Conference 2024
Game AI
August 10, 2024
Sony AI will be participating in the Reinforcement Learning (RL) Conference in Amherst, Massachusetts, from August 9 to 12, 2024 where we will be joining some of the brightest minds in the field—and we are honored to be a part of it.
We will also be presenting a keynote during the conference which will be led by Peter Stone, Chief Scientist at Sony AI and a leading figure in the field of reinforcement learning. His keynote, titled "Practical Reinforcement Learning: Lessons from 30 Years of Research," will delve into the practical applications of RL, drawing on decades of research and experience.
Key Topics of the Keynote:
- Representation: Selecting the right algorithm for a problem's representation and adapting the representation to fit the algorithm.
- Interaction: Engaging with other agents and human trainers to enhance learning.
- Synthesis: Combining different algorithms for the same problem and integrating various concepts within a single algorithm.
- Mortality: Addressing the constraint that in most practical settings, opportunities for learning experiences are limited.
Peter Stone will also discuss Gran Turismo Sophy™, one of the largest commercial deployments of an RL agent. Gran Turismo Sophy (GT Sophy) 2.0, is now a permanent feature in Gran Turismo 7 (GT7) for PlayStation 4 and 5® racing simulation games.
Commitment to Reinforcement Learning
Sony AI has consistently demonstrated its commitment to advancing the field of reinforcement learning. In addition to the GT Sophy project, our team is exploring the impact of RL through various other research initiatives:
- Gastronomy AI: Using RL to optimize cooking processes and ingredient combinations, creating innovative culinary experiences.
- AI for Robotics: Developing RL algorithms that enable robots to learn complex tasks autonomously, enhancing their efficiency and adaptability in dynamic environments.
- Imaging & Sensing: Leveraging RL to improve image processing and sensor data interpretation, resulting in enhanced accuracy and performance in various applications.
- Game AI: Exploring how RL can create intelligent agents that can compete at super-human levels in game environments, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in AI-driven entertainment.
- These flagship projects underscore Sony AI's dedication to exploring and expanding the potential of reinforcement learning across diverse domains.
Join Us at the Conference
We invite you to join us at the Reinforcement Learning Conference to gain insights from Peter Stone’s keynote and to learn more about the paper that was accepted, “A Super-human Vision-based Reinforcement Learning Agent for Autonomous Racing in Gran Turismo,” This event is an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest advancements in RL and to network with experts in the field.
