Sony AI was established in April 2020 to pursue groundbreaking research in AI and robotics to unleash human imagination and creativity with AI.

We believe in AI that empowers the imagination and creativity of artists, makers, scientists and creators around the world. Our aim is to advance AI so that it augments – and works in harmony with – humans to benefit society, enrich interactions, and elevate our creative endeavors.

We are pursuing our mission in partnership with those who have big dreams and are excited to embark on a grand challenge with us.

Sony AI has a growing research portfolio that includes unique and exciting Flagship Projects in the areas of Imaging & Sensing, Gaming, Ethics, Scientific Discovery, Robotics, and Content Creation.

At the forefront of each flagship project is a "Grand Challenge." These ambitious, high-profile initiatives embody our commitment to groundbreaking research and innovation. These projects tackle audacious possibilities, demonstrate our expertise, and strive to make a substantial impact on industry solutions and major business objectives. Often undertaken in collaboration with Sony business units, Grand Challenges are strategically significant, large-scale endeavors that serve as prominent representations of our mission and values.

Our work is inspired by the innovation and market leading vision from across Sony businesses. Its PlayStation business is number one in the console gaming business and connects millions of users with game creators around the world. Sony has a strong global presence in Music, Movies, and Electronics. Currently Sony is the world’s leader in image sensing, supplying CMOS image sensors to camera and mobile phone manufacturers around the world.

Sony AI offers researchers and engineers unique opportunities to engage in projects that harness Sony Group’s diverse business portfolio and technical assets.
